Woodwork

This was a very time consuming, but fun, project.
I made this massive 7 foot bench (inside to inside) out of hemlock and cedar.
I ripped/cut the arches out of a curved cedar tree from our property and..
Hours and hours, lots of sanding and 3 coats of spar urethane later...

It was time well spent.

One of my favorite tools.
An old Stanley no.4 hand plane with patent dates from the early 1900's.
I figured I'd give it a touch of my own personalization with some hints of red.

Another one of my favorite tools are these mallets I make.
Perfect for my woodworking or leatherworking with just the right amount of weight.

This handy device is called a stitching pony.
I made it out of some oak pallet wood and gave the jaws some cushion with leather pads.
I use this on occasion to help hold my leather projects when I need a third hand.

A client contacted me to see if I could save an heirloom from her husband's relative who had passed.
Given a couple of options she opted to replace the crumbling leather with a hand carved wooden handle.
I finished it off with some mineral oil and carnauba wax for a nice shine.
It is now functional again, a piece to be treasured by the family for decades more to come.

This was a cedar gate I made for our goat yard.
I'm not sure if it increased milk production, but I'd like to think so.

This is a solid wood travel box I made for my tools.
Pictured with it is my Stanley hand plane used to prepare the wood  and a leather roll chisel pouch I created for those used as well.

This lamp was made from a unique, antique saw.
Somewhere back in the 50's this Mcculloch 2-man chainsaw bar sprocket was made.
I decided to turn it into a chainsaw lamp.
Believe it or not this piece stands at about 3 feet tall!

A client requested I make cowboy hat hangers
for a Father's day gift.
I chose Aromatic cedar (a natural deodorizer) for the hangers and hemlock for the back boards.
Sealed with walnut oil, they both loved the finished product.

My favorite project so far has been my former workshop.
I was able to make it on a budget and finished the siding with old cedar fence boards I resurfaced.
I also added a mural of a mountain  range on the side.
